The Diversity Charter was initiated in 2006, and Federal Chancellor Merkel is its patron. It was first signed by Daimler, BP Europa SE (then Deutsche BP), Deutsche Bank, und Deutsche Telekom. Since its inception, the charter has been signed by about 1,950 companies.
