Danes Push Consumer Protection

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency has announced four mapping projects. Officials want the projects to make the levels of chemicals in consumer products more transparent. The project is to determine the pervasiveness and risk of specific substances. Examples include:

  • Toluenes and other neurotoxic substances in children’s cribs
  • Particles and heavy metal emissions from candles
  • Allergens in children’s products like toys and cosmetics
  • Chemicals in play mats

As early as April 2014, the Danish Environmental Agency and the Consumer Protection Agency put an app on the market. Consumers can use the app to find out if products contain substances of very high concern (SVHC).
The app found very good acceptance among users. It has already been downloaded 25,000 times and been used to scan more than 70,000 products. You can download the app here.
